Psychotria baillonii is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, widespread in Grande Terre from Col d'Amos in the north to Forêt Nord in the south, Ile des Pins and Lifou. Psychotria baillonii occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 0-1,250 m asl. This species does not seem directly threatened. Psychotria baillonii is considered Least Concern (LC).
