Psychotria semperflorens is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, widespread from Paéoua in the north to Port Boisé in the south of Grande Terre and in Ile des Pins. It occurs in forest, shrubland and sclerophyll forest on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 0-1,100 m asl. This species does not seem globally threatened. Psychotria semperflorens is considered Least Concern (LC).

This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Vulcain (SMGM), Goro (VALE).
