Oxera palmatinervia is a robust liana endemic to New Caledonia, with a limited distribution in the south of Grande Terre. It is quite common though, and occurs in numerous protected areas. It is found in dense humid forest or scrubland on ultramafic substrate from 10 to 1,150 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 2,555 km² and its area of occupancy (AOO) is 176 km². Therefore, O. palmatinervia is listed as Least Concern (LC).

O. palmatinervia is endemic to New Caledonia, with a limited distribution in the south of Grande Terre.

Population


Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that O. palmatinervia is a common species in the south of Grande Terre.

Habitat


O. palmatinervia occurs in dense humid forest and scrubland on ultramafic substrate from 10 to 1,150 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened, although some subpopulations may be impacted by mining activities (Goro (Vale)) and fires.

Conservation


This species is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in several protected areas: Haute Dumbéa, Montagne des sources, Mont Mou, Barrage de Yaté, Haute Yaté, Vallée de la Thy, Pic du Pin, Chutes de la Madeleine, la Dumbéa, Rivière Bleue. This species is cultivated at the IAC (Institut Agronomique de Nouvelle-Calédonie) nursery of Saint-Louis with only a few number of individuals.
