Geographical area

Hibbertia pulchella is a common endemic tree of New Caledonia where it appears to be restricted to the south of the main island, Grande Terre.

Population size may be higher than 10,000 mature individuals. When present in a station, H. pulchella is abundant.

H. pulchella is mostly found on ligno-herbaceous shrubland on hydromorphic ferralitic soils but also in open vegetation on ultramafic soils, at an altitudinal range 30 - 700 asl.

H.pulchella seems to remain rather protected from the usual threats occurring in New Caledonia.

H.pulchella is not protected by legislation but it occurs in several protected areas (réserve naturelle du Massif du Kouakoué, réserve naturelle de la Haute Dumbéa,réserve naturelle des Chutes de la Madeleine, aire de gestion durable des ressources de Netcha,Parc Provincial de la Rivière Bleue, réserve naturelle du Barrage de Yaté, réserve naturelle de la Fausse Yaté, réserve naturelle de la Forêt Cachée, réserve naturelle de la forêt de Saille).
