Melodinus scandens is a big robust liana endemic of New Caledonia widely distributed across the Grande Terre. It is known from Prony (the southern limit) to Baaba (the upper limit), as well as in Ile des Pins. This species occurs in dry forest and scrubland on various substrates up to 765 m asl. This species is common and it does not seem to be threatened. Therefore Melodinus scandens is listed as Least Concerned (LC).
Geographical area
Melodinus scandens is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed across the Grande Terre, from Prony (the southern limit) to Baaba (the upper limit), as well as in Ile des Pins.
Population
The population size is not known. Field observations indicate a species that is common.
Habitat
Melodinus scandens occurs in dry forest and and scrubland on various substrates up to 765 m asl.
Threats
This species is common and it does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
This species is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in three protected areas: Parc zoologique et forestier Michel Corbasson, Ile Leprédour, Ouen Toro.
