Phyllanthus aeneus is a sub-shrub or shrub of 0.5-3(-5) m high, endemic of New Caledonia and widely distributed across the Grande Terre as well as in Belep islands and Ile des Pins. This species is quite common and it mainly grows on ultramafic substrates up to 1,000 masl. This species does not seem threatened. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 18,987 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 708 km², Phyllanthus aeneus is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


Phyllanthus aeneus is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed across the Grande Terre. This species is also found in Belep islands and Ile des Pins.

Population


This species happears to be common in New Caledonia.

Habitat


Phyllanthus aeneus mainly occurs in mining areas on ultramafic substrates up to 1,000 m asl.

Threats


This species does not appear to be threatened at the moment due to its large distribution.

Conservation


Phyllanthus genus is protected by legislation in Province Nord. Phyllanthus aeneus does occur in several protected areas: Côte Oubliée, Vallée de la Thy, Rivière bleue, Pic du Pin, Montagne des sources, la Dumbéa, Haute Dumbéa, Barrage de Yaté, Cap N'dua, Chutes de la Madeleine.
