Critically Endangered (CR) , assessed in 09/12/2016

Polyscias nitida is an endemic shrub found in the central part of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is found in low altitude mesophilous forest on ultramafic substrate. Main threats impacting this species come from habitat degradation caused by invasive species (Rusa timorensis) and bushfires. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated to be of 77 km² and 20 km² while the number of location is estimated to be one as Rusa rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) might impact all the individuals. Polyscias nitida is therefore assessed as Critically Endangered (CR) with criteria B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) with a continuing decline of habitat quality.
