Acianthus cymbalarifolius is an endemic geophyte orchid of New Caledonia, distributed from south to north Grande Terre with a predominance in the southern part of Grande Terre. Acianthus cymbalarifolius occurs in dense humid forest at an altitudinal range 30-1000 m asl. With an area of occupancy equal to 188 km², an extent of occurrence of 10,697 km² and over 20 sub-populations, A. cymbalariifolius qualifies as Least Concern.

A. cymbalariifolius can be threatened by mining activities (Vale, Kwe ouest and Pinpin) and bushfires.
Conservation
A. cymbalariifolius is protected by legilsation in Province Nord and Province Sud and occurs in numerous protected areas : Parc des Grandes Fougères, réserve naturelle du Pic du Pin, réserve naturelle de la Forêt Cachée, Parc provincial de la Rivière Bleue, réserve naturelle de la Haute Dumbéa, réserve intégrale de la Montagne des Sources, réserve naturelle du barrage de Yaté.
