Pandanus decastigma is a narrow endemic shrub found in the southern part of Grande Terre in New Caledonia.This species is only known from a single herbarium specimen (1973) at Vallée Mt Kouakoué. It is found in shrubland on ultramafic substrate at an altitude range of 10-100 m asl. . Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are both equal to 4 km² while the species is known to exist at only a single location. However, due to a lack of recent observations, Pandanus decastigma is considered as a priority Data Deficient (DD) species.

This species is protected by legislation in province Nord and it does not occur in any protected area. Field prospections on Vallée de Mt. Kouakoué, Ouinné and N'goy are recommended to better estimate its population and its status.
