Parsonsia longiflora is an endemic liana of New Caledonia, with a scattered distribution across the main land (Grande Terre), between the far south of the Grande Terre to Poya and at its upper limit at Koniambo-Ponérihouen region. This species occcurs in dense forest and scrubland (maquis) on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 20-1,000 m asl. This species seems to be less common in the north of Grande Terre but it is very common in the south. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) estimated to be 6,262 and 124 km², respectively, Parsonsia longiflora does not seem globally threatened. It is therefore considered Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Parsonsia longiflora is endemic to New Caledonia where it has a scattered distribution across the main land (Grande Terre), between the far south of the Grande Terre to Poya and frrom its upper limit at Koniambo-Ponérihouen region.
Population
The population size is not known. Field observations indicate that the species is very common in the south of the main land although it seems to be less common in the north of Grande Terre.
Habitat
Parsonsia longiflora occurs in in dense forest and scrubland (maquis) on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 20-1,000 m asl.
Threats
Parsonsia longiflora does not seem to be globally threatened although some subpopulations can be impacted by the mining activities (Goro and Cam des Sapins) and uncontrolled bushfires.
Conservation
Parsonsia longiflora is not protected by the legislation in New Caledonia but is does occur in several protected areas : Aoupinié, Forêt cachée, Haute Yaté, Montagne des sources, Rivière bleue, Vallée de la Thy.
