Cocconerion minus is an endemic shrub or tree of New Caledonia largely distributed in the northwestern massifs and the southeastern coast of Grande Terre. It is found in shrubland on ultramafic substrate, from 30 to 1,100 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 8,241 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 120 km², C. minus is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

C. minus is endemic to New Caledonia where it is largely distributed in the northwestern massifs and the southeastern coast of Grande Terre.

Population


Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common and abondant species.

Habitat


C. minus occurs in in shrubland on ultramafic substrate, from 30 to 1,300 m asl.

Threats


C. minus may be impacted by mining activities ((Poum (SLN), Kopeto (SLN)Ouazangou (NMC),Etoile du Nord (SLN), Michel 38 (SMT), Koniambo (KNS)) and fires. However, it has a large distribution and natural regeneration has been observed. It does not seem threatened.

Conservation


C. minus is protedted by legislation in Province Nord and it does occur in two protedted areas: Massif du Kouakoué and Barrage de Yaté.
