The main threats impacting this species comes from habitat fragmentation caused by bushfires and mining activities. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being estimated respectively to 60 and 337 km², Cunonia deplanchei is considered Vulnerable (VU) using criteria B1ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v)+2ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v) with an estimation of 8 locations and an estimated decline of all sub-criteria.

Geographical area

Cunonia deplanchei is restricted to the south of Grande Terre in the Plaine des Lacs area and around Yaté.

Population

It is known from 8 sub-populations.

It is found in open wetlands at low altitude (100-300 m asl) on ultramafic substrate.

Threats

The main threats impacting this species comes from habitat fragmentation caused by bushfires and mining activities. Yaté's dam impacted in the past its distribution area. This species can regenerate after a fire.

Conservation

This species is easy to grow in plant nurseries and could be used more often in ecological restoration. Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in two protected areas : Rivière bleue, Haute Yaté. Protecting the wetlands of plaine des Lacs recently recognized by RAMSAR through a management plan would be benefic to this species.
