Diospyros tireliae is an endemic shrub/tree of New Caledonia sparsely spread on Grande Terre and Belep archipelago. It is found in humid forest at low-mid altitude on ultramafic substrate (serpentinous vein). The main threats impacting this species come from habitat fragmentation and degradation linked to uncontrolled bushfires as well as feral pigs and wood collection on Belep. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being estimated respectively to 24 and 1,356 km², Diospyros tireliae is considered Endangered (EN) using criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with an estimation of four locations and an estimated continuous decline of habitat quality and number of mature individuals.

Diospyros tireliae is an endemic shrub/tree of New Caledonia sparsely spread on Grande Terre (Grandié, Koujoua, Ouaté) and Belep archipelago.

Population size is unknown.

Habitat


It is found in humid forest at low-mid altitude (50-400 m asl) on ultramafic or schistose substrate.

Threats


The main threats impacting this species come from habitat fragmentation and degradation linked to uncontrolled bushfires as well as feral pigs and wood collection on Belep.

Conservation


This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord and in Province Sud. It does not occur in any protected area. It is recommended to conduct further research in order to collect more recent material to confirm the species' demarcation. As this species is threatened by bushfires, its stations must be included in the maps of Sécurité Civile.
