Oxera coronata is a robust liana endemic to New Caledonia. It is quite common and abundant in the north east of Grande Terre, and is also found on the central part from Farino to Diahoué. It occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary rocks from 300 to 1,530 m asl. This species is common and does not seem threathened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) equal 1,234 and 68 km², respectively. Therefore, O. coronata is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area

O. coronata is endemic to New Caledonia with a scattered distribution. It is common in the north east of Grande Terre, and is also found in the central part, from Farino to Mt. Goroaté.

Population size is not known precisely, but field observations indicate a relative abundance in the north eastern part of Grande Terre.

O. coronata is found in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate, from 300 to 1,530 m asl.

O. coronata could be affected by habitat degradation by Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa), mainly in Parc des Grandes Fougères. However, as it is common in the north eastern part of Grande Terre, this species does not appear to be threatened at the moment.

This species is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in three protected areas: Parc des Grandes Fougères, Mont Panié and Aoupinié.
