Syzygium baudouinii is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia,restricted to the south of Grande Terre, from Ouaménie to Yaté. It is found in wetland and swamp on ultramafique soil between 300 and 700 m asl. Known from 8 localities, its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 1,586 and 40 km², respectively. The main threats are bushfires that cause habitat degradation and rusts that can affect some subpopulations. Therefore, S. baudouinii is listed as Vulnerable (VU) under criteria B1ab(ii,iii,v)+B2ab(ii,iii,v) with an estimated decline of the subcriteria concerned.

S. baudouinii is endemic of New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the south of Grande Terre, from Ouaménie to Yaté.

Population size is unknown.

Habitat


S. baudouinii occurs in wetland and swamp on ultramafic soil between 300 and 700 m asl.

Threats


The main threats are bushfires that cause habitat degradation and rusts that can affect some subpopulations.

Conservation


This species is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and occurs in only one protected area: Mont Do. This species should be included in the regional legislation for a better protection of the species. Herbarium specimens should be more collected to better estimate its distribution and its extinction risks.
