Syzygium amieuense is an endemic tree of New Caledonia largely distributed in the central part to the northeastern part of the Grande Terre. This species is found in dense humid forest on volcano sedimentary substrate, from 308 to 650 m asl. This species is a forest species and does not seem threatened by invasive species. Despite having an area of occupancy (AOO) and an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 84 and 4,068 km² respectively, S. amieuense is considered to be a common species in New Caledonia. It is not thought to approach the conditions for listing as threatened under any criterion and is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


S. amieuense is endemic of New Caledonia where it is largely distributed in the central part to the northeastern part of the Grande Terre, from Mia to Mandjelia.

Population


Population size is unknown but based on field observations this species has a good regeneration in its natural habitats.

Habitat


S. amieuense occurs in dense humid forest on volcano sedimentary substrate, from 308 to 650 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened, although some subpopulations may be impacted by fires (Boirou). Also this species is a forest species and does not seem to be threatened by invasive species, frequent in this type of habitat.

Conservation


S. amieuense is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in three protected areas: Mont Panié, Parc des Grandes Fougères and Aoupinié.
