Syzygium deplanchei is an endemic shrub or tree of New Caledonia largely distributed in Grande Terre as well as at Ile des Pins. This species is abundant and it occurs in dense humid forest, scrubland on volcano sedimentary and ultramafic rocks, up to 1,630 m asl. It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 12,022 km² and a minimum area of occupancy (AOO) of 156 km², but it does not appear to be significantly threatened at the moment. Therefore, S. deplanchei is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


S. deplanchei is endemic to New Caledonia where it is largely distributed in Grande Terre as well as at Ile des Pins.

Population


Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common and abondant species.

Habitat


S. deplanchei occurs in shrubland ('maquis') and dense humid forest on ultramafic or volcano sedimentary substrate up to 1,630 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened, although some subpopulations may be impacted by fires and mining activies at Tiebaghi.

Conservation


This species is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in several protected areas: Barrage de Yaté, Pic du Pin, Forêt de Saille, Foret Nord, Haute Yaté, Mont Panié, Vallée de la Thy, Aoupinié, Rivière bleue, Pic Ningua and Nodela.
