Uromyrtus nekouana is a narrow endemic shrub of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. This species is insufficiently known. It could be composed by two sub-populations (Taom, Montagne des Sources). Little information is available on the species distribution, population, habitats and ecology and threats. This information should be investigated. Until it is available Uromyrtus nekouana is assessed as Data Deficient (DD).

Under current taxonomic delimitation, Uromyrtus nekouana could be composed by two sub-populations : Taom and Montagne des Sources.

Population size is unknown.

Habitat


From current data, Uromyrtus nekouana may be found in shrubland.

Threats


There is a general threat of bushfires and mining activities in these locations but due to the lack of data and field work the threats to these particular collection sites are unknown.

Conservation


Uromyrtus nekouana is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected area. It is recommended to improve the knowledge of the species (prospections, more herbarium specimens, taxonomic studies) to confirm its probable taxonomique issues and better estimate its distribution, and status.
