Pittosporum simsonii is a quite abundant tree of New Caledonia, which can reach 20 m in height and widely distributed on Grande Terre, îles des Pins and on îles Bélep. P. simsonii occurs in dense humid forest, even in secondary forest on all kind of soil. With an area of occupancy of 216 km² and an extent of occurrence of 15,737 km², Pittosporum simsonii is assessed as Least Concern.

P. simsonii is quite abundant and does not appear threatened.

Conservation


Unprotected species by legislation, P. simsonii is however found in several protected areas : réserve naturelle du Mont Mou, réserve naturelle de la Vallée de la Thy, réserve de nature sauvage du massif de l’Aoupinié and Parc des Grandes Fougères.
