Psychotria amieuensis is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, found in a restricted area between La Foa and Bourail in Grande Terre. This species is only known from three sub-populations (Me Ammeri, Mont Canala, Pic Vincent). It occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary at an altitudinal range 500-800 m asl. The main threat impacting this species come from habitat degradation caused by invasive species (rusa rusa deer (Rusa timorensis)), in particular in Parc des Grandes Fougères / Col Amieu area. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 12 and 55 km², while the number of locations are estimated to be three. Psychotria amieuensis is therefore assessed as Endangered (EN) with criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with a decline of habitat quality and number of mature individuals.

Conservation


Psychotria amieuensis is not protected by legislation but it occurs in one protected areas : Parc des Grandes Fougères . It is recommended to inform the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels de Nouvelle-Calédonie (New Caledonia natural spaces conservatory), which coordinates the New Caledonian Invasive Species Programme, on the situation of the species in the concerned areas.
