Psychotria saltiensis is an endemic shrub, widespread in Grande Terre from Mandjelia in the North to Montagne des sources in the South of New Caledonia. It occurs in forest on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic susbstrate at an altitudinal range 0-1,450 m asl. This species does not seem globally threatened. Psychotria saltiensis is considered Least Concern (LC).

This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Kouaoua (SLN), Camp des sapins (SLN).
