The main threats affecting this species are uncontrolled bushfires, urbanization and invasive species feral pig (Sus scrofa) and deer (Rusa timorensis). Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are both equal to 8 km² while the species is known to exist at only a single location. Population size is estimated to be fewer than 250 mature individuals. Therefore, B. corneri is considered Critically Endangered (CR) according to criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v);C2a(ii), with an estimated decline of all the concerned sub-criteria.
