Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 02/05/2019Maxwellia lepidota is an endemic tree of New Caledonia, widely distributed in Grande Terre. This species occurs in dense humid forest, dry forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrates up to 500 m asl. This species does not seem significantly threatened. Therefore, despite having an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 11,343 km² and a minimum Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 416 km², M. lepidota is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. However, some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires and mining activities at Kouaoua, Koniambo, Camp des sapins, Goro.
Conservation
Maxwellia lepidota is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in 4 protected areas: Haute Dumbéa, la Dumbéa, Pic du grand Kaori, Rivière bleue.
