Myrsine novocaledonica subsp. kaalaensis is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia. It is found in the northwest of Grande Terre. It occurs in degraded shrubland between 150 and 1,050 m asl. This taxon is insufficiently collected and not well known. Therefore, M. novocaledonica subsp. kaalaensis is listed as Data Deficient (DD) for taxonomic reasons.

Geographical area


M. novocaledonica subsp. kaalaensis is endemic to New Caledonia. Under current delimitation, it is found on the ultramafic massifs from the northwest of Grande Terre (Siounda, Kaala, Taom).

Population


Population size is unknown.

Habitat


Myrsine novocaledonica subsp. kaalaensis seems to occur in degraded shrubland on ultramafic soil between 150 and 1,050 m asl.

Threats


This taxon was collected at a site that could be impacted by mining activities and bushfires.

Conservation


M. novocaledonica subsp. kaalensis is protected by legislation in Province Nord, but does not occur in any protected areas. A taxonomic study of the genus Myrsine is necessary to clarify all species and be able to assess them.
