Pandanus macrocarpus is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia with a scatterred distribution in Grande Terre (south, centre and north-east) and is also found in Loyalty Islands (Lifou and Maré) and Ies des Pins. P. macrocarpus occurs in dense humid forests and mangroves on volcano-sedimentary rocks, calcareous and ultramafic rocks up to 350 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 42,472 and 84 km², respectively. P. macrocarpus does not seem directly threatened and is considered Least Concern (LC).

The population size is unknown.

This species does not seem threatened but some subpopulations may be impacted by fire and mining activities: Goro(SLN).
P. macrocarpus is protected by legislation in province Nord. This species is found in four protected areas: Rivière bleue, Haute Yaté, Haute Dumbéa, la Dumbéa.
