Pycnandra deplanchei is an endemic shrub of Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Bogota in the North to Prony in the South. It is found in dense humid forest or shrubland on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 10-700 m asl. The main impact identified comes from ongoing mining activites and bushfires. Therefore, this species does not seem globally threatened. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 100 and 3,200 km², Pycnandra deplanchei is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with a decline of habitat quality and number of mature individuals and a number of locations close to 10.

It is known from 15-20 subpopulations, but total population size is unknown.

This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: N'Go (MKM) or bushfires (N'Go, Foret Anais, Yaté).
Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in three protected areas : la Dumbéa, Haute Dumbéa, Barrage de Yaté
