Pycnandra wagapensis is restricted to the eastern central part of Grande Terre, from Col d'Amieu in the South to Col d'amoss in the North. It occurs in humid forests on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 250-484 m asl. Recurrent bushfires and Rusa deer are the main identified threats. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and area of occurrence (EOO) are respectively estimated to 28 km² and 1,749 km². Pycnandra wagapensis is therefore considered Vulnerable (VU) according to criteria B1ab(iii,v)+B2ab(iii,v) with a continuing decline of all sub-criteria.

Pycnandra wagapensis is restricted to the eastern central part of Grande Terre, from Col d'Amieu in the South to Col d'amoss in the North.

Population


It is known from six sub-populations: Col d'Amieu, Tiwaka, Tonine,Poami, Amoss, Arago.

Habitat


Pycnandra wagapensis occurs in humid forests on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 250-484 m asl.

Threats


Some of the lower subpopulations may be threatened by bushfires (Bopope, Amos) and Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) at Poami and Parc des Grandes Fougères (Swenson & Munzinger 2015).

Conservation


Unprotected by legislation, Pycnandra wagapensis does not occur in any protected area.
