Oncotheca humboldtiana is an endemic small tree of New Caledonia widespread on Grande Terre from Tchingou in the north to Yaté in the south. Oncotheca humboldtiana occurs in humid forest on ultramafif substrate at an altitudinal range 20-900 m asl. This species does not seem directly threatened. This species has a high phylogenetic importance as it is part of the endemic family Oncothecaceae which consists of 2 species. Oncotheca humboldtiana is considered Least Concern (LC).

This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Goro (VALE).
Conservation
Unprotected by legislation, this species occurs in several protected areas : la Dumbéa, Rivière bleue, Massif du Kouakoué, Vallée de la Thy, Montagne des sources, Mont Panié, Pic du grand Kaori, Haute Yaté, Haute Dumbéa. This species has a high phylogenetic importance as it is part of the endemic family Oncothecaceae which consists of 2 species.
