Psychotria sp. nov. "butinii" is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, restricted to Kantaloupai and Tchingou in Grande Terre. It occurs in forest on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 580-940 m asl. This species does not seem directly threatened because of its altitudinal habitat. Psychotria sp. nov. "butinii" is considered Vulnerable (VU) using criteria D2 because of its small area of occupancy (AOO) being estimated to 12 km².

Psychotria sp. nov. "butinii" is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, restricted to Kantaloupai and Tchingou in Grande Terre.

Population


It is known from two sub-populations : Kantaloupai and Tchingou.

Habitat


It occurs in forest on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 580-940 m asl.

Threats


Currently, Psychotria sp. nov. "butinii" does not appear to be impacted by any specific threat, but could be significantly affected if mining activity was launched on the massif du Tchingou.

Conservation


Psychotria sp. nov. "butinii" is not protected by any legislation and does not occur in any protected areas. Given our lack of knowlege about this species, it is highly recommended to carry out field surveys .
