Oxera oblongifolia is a slender liana or woody climber endemic to New Caledonia, largely distributed across Grande Terre and the Belep islands. It is quite common and abundant in scrubland and dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic substrate, from 30 to 1,000 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 14,260 km² and 312 km², respectively. Oxera oblongifolia does not seem threathened and therefore is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area

Oxera oblongifolia is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is largely distributed from the south to the north of Grande Terre and the Belep islands.


Total population size is unknown, but field observations indicate the species is quite common.


Oxera oblongifolia occurs in scrubland and dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic substrate, from 30 to 1,000 m asl.


This species does not seem to be threatened at the moment, although some subpopulations may be impacted by mining activities: Goro (Vale), Pinpin (NMC), Tiébaghi and Poum (SLN).


This species is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in numerous protected areas: Rivière Bleue, Mont Do, la Dumbéa, Parc des Grandes Fougères, Haute Dumbéa, Montagne des Sources, Barrage de Yaté. This species is cultivated at the IAC (Institut Agronomique de Nouvelle-Calédonie) nursery of Saint-Louis with only a few number of individuals.
