Gossia sp. (MacKee 12758) is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, only known from Mont Kaala in the northwest of Grande Terre. This species was found on ultramafic slopes between 30 m to 600 m asl. It is poorly known and has yet to be formally described. Therefore, Gossia sp. (MacKee 12758) is listed as Data deficient (DD) due to provenance and taxnomic reasons.

Geographical area


Gossia sp. (MacKee 12758) is endemic to New Caledonia. Under current delimitation, it is only known from Mont Kaala in the northwest of Grande Terre.

Population


Population size is unknown due to a lack of data.

Habitat


Gossia sp. (MacKee 12758) seems to occur on ultramafic slopes from 30 m to 600 m asl.

Threats


This species was collected at a site that could be impacted by bushfires. Besides, it may be impacted by myrtle's rust (Austropuccinia psidii).

Conservation


Gossia sp. (MacKee 12758) is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia and does not occur in any protected areas. Taxonomic studies are necessary to clarify the species' status and be able to formally describe it. Besides, further prospection on Mont Kaala is needed to estimate its population size and understand potential threats.
