Drypetes deplanchei is an indigenous tree largely distributed in Grande Terre as well as in Belep island, Loyalty islands (Maré, Lifou and Ouvéa) and Walpole island. This species occurs in humid forest and dry forest in various substrat up to 500 m asl. This species is common and does not seem threatened. Therefore with an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 75,367 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 152 km², Drypetes deplanchei is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Drypetes deplanchei is an indigenous species to New Caledonia where it is largely distributed in Grande Terre and nearby islands (Belep island, Loyalty islands (Ouvéa, Lifou and Maré), Mato island and Ile des Pins. This species is also known from Australia.
Population
Population size is unknown but field observations indicate a quite common species.
Habitat
Drypetes deplanchei occurs in dense humid forest and dry forest in various substrate up to 500 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. However, some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires and mining activities at Kopeto.
Conservation
Drypetes deplanchei is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in 3 protected areas: Parc zoologique et forestier Michel Corbasson, Ouen Toro, Ile Leprédour.
