Notes: this fungus is recognised by its complex rosette like form with overlapping spathulate fruiting sections on a single central stipe. The spines are decurrent, offset from the vertical, cream then greyish lilac. This would appear to be a Hydnellum. It does not exactly fit any of the descriptions given by Maas Geesteranus for toothed fungi, but is closest to his Climacodon efflorescens. That name has several attached descriptions but apparently no extant type. Therefor this collection has been retained as Hydnellum sp 1 pending clarification.
