Description

Cap: infundibuliform; 20-80 mm diameter; velutinate, radially striate; cinnamon brown drying darker chestnut brown; margin often inrolled, densely ciliate.

Stipe: cylindrical, often tapering toward base;30 - 90 × 3 - 10 mm; velutinate to slightly hispid; cinnamon to light brown.

Gills: deeply decurrent; densely crowded; white to pale brown.

Spore print: white.

Spores: ellipsoid; 5 – 6 × 3 – 3.5 µm; inamyloid.

Notes: this Panus is characterized by its velutinous cap and its very crowded decurrent gills. It has been reported in NC but details do not seem to have been published yet.
