Arbre endémique de Nouvelle-Calédonie connu de 3 sous-populations dans la Chaîne, de la Ouinné à la Comboui. Habitat menacé par les feux de brousse. Estimation de 3 localités. P. pachyphylla est considéré En Danger (EN) selon le critère B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii).
