Pleurocalyptus pancheri is an endemic shrub or tree from New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the southern half of Grande Terre, from Bourail to Prony. This species is found in shrubland on ultramafic soil up to 1,000 m asl. This species is quite common and locally abundant and does not seem threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 2,667 km² and 68 km², respectively. Therefore, P. pancheri is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


P. pancheri is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the southern half of Grande Terre, from Bourail to Prony.

Population


Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this species is quite common and abundant.

Habitat


P. pancheri occurs in shrubland and dense humid forest on ultramafic soil up to 1,000 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem globally threatened at the moment, although some subpopulations may be impacted by uncontrolled bushfires.

Conservation


P. pancheri is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in several protected areas: la Dumbéa, Vallée de la Thy, Haute Dumbéa, Massif du Kouakoué, Montagne des sources.
