Near Threatened (NT) , assessed in 24/07/2015

Pittosporum poueboense is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia quite common in the center and the north-eastern of Grande Terre. A species of dense humid forest on schist soil, P. poueboense occurs at an altitudinal range 400-1,000 m asl. A continuous decline of population size is projected due to degradations induced by feral pigs and consumption of seeds by rat, which could impact P. poueboense. Mature individuals population size is not precisely known, but it is estimated close to 10,000 individuals. Regarding criteria C, P. poueboense qualifies as Near Threatened (NT) close to (VU) C2a(i).
