Psychotria goniocarpa is an endemic shrub, widespread in Grande Terre from Tendé (Ouégoa) in the north to Forêt Nord in the south of New Caledonia. It occurs in dense humid forest at an altitudinal range 0-1,000 m asl. This species does not seem globally threatened. Psychotria goniocarpa is considered Least Concern (LC).

This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Goro (VALE).
