Psychotria monanthos is an endemic shrub, widespread in Grande Terre from Massif de Poum in the north to Port Boisé in the south of New Caledonia. It occurs in forest and shrubland on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 0-1,010 m asl. This species does not seem globally threatened. Psychotria monanthos is considered Least Concern (LC).

This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Goro (VALE), Camp des sapins (SLN).
