It is widely distributed across Grande Terre as well as the Loyalty islands, Ile des Pins and Bélep islands. This species occurs in scrubland and in forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrates up to 1,200 m asl. This species does not seem to be globally threatened although the subpopulation of Bélep islands are threatened by bushfires and potentially mining activities in the future. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 57,206 and 196 km², respectively. Therefore, Tarenna truncatocalyx is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Tarenna truncatocalyx is endemic to New caledonia where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre as well as the Loyalty islands, Ile des Pins and Bélep islands.

Habitat
This species occurs in scrubland and in forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrates up to 1,200 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem to be globally threatened although the subpopulations of Bélep islands are threatened by bushfires and potentially mining activities in the future.
Conservation
Tarenna truncatocalyx is unprotected by legislation in New Caledonia and it occurs in one protected area: Mont Panié.
