Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 02/05/2019Storthocalyx leioneurus is an endemic tree (8-10 m high) largely distributed in a scattered way along the Grande Terre, from Yaté to Mont Taom. This species occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 650 m asl. This species does not seem threatened. Therefore with an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 10,884 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 108 km², S. leioneurus is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Storthocalyx leioneurus is endemic to New Caledonia where it has a large and scattered distribution.
Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
Storthocalyx leioneurus occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 650 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. However, some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires and mining acitivities at Goro.
Conservation
Storthocalyx leioneurus is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in 6 protected areas: Foret Nord, Barrage de Yaté, Parc des Grandes Fougères, Rivière bleue, Vallée de la Thy, Aoupinié.
