Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 29/11/2019Pleioluma rubicunda is an endemic shrub or tree of New Caledonia, where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre. It occurs in dense humid forest or shrubland on volcano-sedimentary or rarely on ultramafic substrate from 250 to 1,000 m asl. This species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 5,627 and 204 km², respectively. Therefore, P. rubicunda is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
P. rubicunda is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre, from Mt. Do to Mt. Mandjélia.
Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
This small tree grows in dense humid forest or shrubland on volcano-sedimentary and occasionally ultramafic substrate from 250 to 1,000 m asl.
Threats
This species does not appear to be threatened.
Conservation
P. rubicunda is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it occurs in several protected areas: Mt. Panié, Aoupinié, pic Ningua and Mt. Do natural reserves, as well as the Grandes Fougères provincial park.
