Syzygium longifolium is an endemic shrub or small tree of New Caledonia with a scattered distribution across Grande Terre. This species is also observed at Nakéty and Sarramea. This species is found in forest galeries along streams and dense humid forest on volcano sedimentary and ultramafic substrate up to 900 m asl. The number of location is estimated to be eleven perhaps more. The main threats are bushfires that cause habitat degradation, as well as myrtle rust, which can impact some subpopulations. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 8,460 and 68 km², respectively, with a number of locations estimated to be 11, perhaps more. Therefore, S. longifolium is listed as Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(ii,iii,v)+B2ab(ii,iii,v).

Habitat

Threats
The main threats are bushfires that cause habitat degradation, myrtle rust as well as potential mining activities at Ouazangou and Nakéty which can impact some subpopulations.
Conservation
This species is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in only one protected area: Aoupinié. Prospections is recommended for more data observation's updates and to better estimate its population and distribution. Moreover, this species is cultivated in ex situ therefore it is suggested to promote its growing in nurseries.
