This species is widely distributed in New Caledonia, shows no sign of decline and is therefore listed as Least Concern.
Geographical area
This species is found in many parts of the main island of New Caledonia. Localities extend from the higher parts of the Massif du Colnett and the Massif du Tchingou (1,200 m) in the northeast to near sea level (20 m) near Port Boise in the extreme south .
Population
The population size is not known, but it is assumed to be relatively large as it common and the population trend seems to be stable.
Habitat
This species is mainly found in montane rainforest on both ultramafic and acidic substrates.
Threats
No specific threats have been identified for this species.
Conservation
Podocarpus lucienii has been recorded from protected areas in the northeast (Mt Panie) and in the south at Montagne des Sources and the Parc Provincial de la Rivière Bleue. This species is produced in the nursery of VALE NC for forest reinforcement.
