Parsonsia macrophylla is an endemic liana of New Caledonia. This species is known from two subpopulations, one in the south and the other in the central part of Grande Terre. This species was recently found at Mont Pénari in 2019. It is found in dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range of 800-900 m asl. Population size is unknown. Its Area of Occupancy (AOO) and Extent of Occurrence (EOO) are estimated at 36 and 2,555 km². This species does not seem currently threatened as it is present in deep altitudinal forests. It may be potentially impacted in future by the climate change. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) estimated to be 2,555 and 36 km², respectively, Parsonsia macrophylla is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened. It is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Conservation


Parsonsia macrophylla is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia. It is present in three protected areas : Parc Provincial de la Rivière Bleue, Réserve Naturelle du Mont Kouakoué and Réserve Naturelle de la Haute-Pourina.
