in Northern ProvinceM. tardiflora is an endemic tree from New Caledonia, where it has a scattered, but wide distribution across Grande Terre. It occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic or volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 1,350 m asl. Except for the Thio subpopulation, which may be impacted by mining activities, this species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 4,906 and 92 km², respectively. Therefore, M. tardiflora is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
This species is endemic to New Caledonia, where it has a scattered, but wide distribution across Grande Terre, from Mts. Dzumac to Mt. Mandjélia.
Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
This tree grows in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary or ultramafic substrate from 50 to 1,350 m asl.
Threats
Except the Thio subpopulation, which may be impacted by mining activities (Camp des Sapins (SLN)), this species does not appear to be threatened.
Conservation
M. tardiflora is protected by legislation in Province Nord and occurs in five protected areas: Mt. Panié, Aoupinié, Mt. Humboldt and Massif du Kouakoué natural reserves, as well as the Côte Oubliée provincial park.
