Tristaniopsis yateensis is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the far south of Grande Terre. This species occurs in shrubland and low humid forest on ultramafic substrate between 200 and 400 m asl. Known from 6 locations, its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are equal to 52 and 73 km², respectively. The main threats to this species are habitat degradation caused by uncontrolled bushfires. Therefore, T. yateensis is listed as Vulnerable (VU) under criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with a decline in habitat quality and number of mature individuals.

Threats

The main threat to this species is habitat degradation caused by uncontrolled bushfires.

Conservation

T. yateensis is protected by legislation in Province Nord and Province Sud, and it occurs in two protected areas: Barrage de Yaté, Fausse Yaté and Chutes de la Madeleine. This species would benefit from in situ and ex situ emergency conservation actions. It is proposed that monitoring should occur to ensure the persistence of the known population. To ensure the preservation of a viable population, it is recommended to inform the DSCGR (government department overseeing firefighting actions) on the presence of the species in the concerned areas.
