Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 21/07/2016Codia nitida is an endemic shrub/tree of New Caledonia. It is found in shrubland on ultramafic substrate at low and mid altitude. This species does not seem directly threatened. Codia nitida is considered Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Codia nitida's distribution is disjointed : in southern Grande Terre from Petchicara to Yaté and in the nord-west from Avangui to Tinip.
Population
This species is common.
Habitat
This species is found commonly in shrubland (and occasionally on forest edges) on ultramafic substrate at low and mid altitude (10-700 m asl).
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities.
Conservation
This species is easy to grow in plant nurseries and is used in vegetation restoration. Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in numerous protected areas : Netcha, Rivière bleue, Vallée de la Thy, Bois du Sud, Montagne des sources, Haute Yaté, Pic du Pin, Haute Dumbéa.
