Geissois pruinosa is an endemic shrub/tree of New Caledonia. It is found in dense humid forest and shrubland on various substrates at low and high altitude. This species is largely distributed and does not seem directly threatened. Geissois pruinosa is considered Least Concern (LC). The red list status of the two varieties of Geissois pruinosa is not assessed.
Geographical area
Geissois pruinosa is widely spread on Grande Terre from yaté to Koumac.
Population
Individuals are scattered.
Habitat
It is found in dense humid forest and shrubland on various substrates at low and high altitude (20-1,150 m asl).
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities and bushfires.
Conservation
This species is easy to grow in plant nurseries and is used in vegetation restoration. Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in numerous protected areas : Mont Do, Mont Mou, Pic Ningua, Vallée de la Thy, Montagne des sources
