Red List Status -
Endangered (EN) , assessed in 03/07/2017Protected species -
in Southern Province , in Northern ProvinceThis species is only known from two locations: Montagne des Sources and Mt Kouakoué. The extent of occurrence and area of occupancy are 16 km2. In Montagne des Sources, recent fires have come close to destroying one subpopulation. This species is therefore listed as Endangered rather than Critically Endangered or even Near Threatened
Geographical area
A species only known from Montagne des Sources and Mt Kouakoué (three sites, two locations) in the southern ultramafic massifs between 800 to 1,000 m asl.
Population
Only known from two locations around 14 km apart. It occurs in small patches (colonies) up to 20 m across.
Habitat
A prostrate mat forming shrub that only occurs in high-altitude maquis in areas of high precipitation.
Threats
Although all three sites are relatively inaccessible and within protected areas, they are vulnerable to fires. Due to its ecological specificity, this species may also be vulnerable to the predicted effects of climate change
Conservation
All the known localities are within protected areas.
